Something Cup

Just some throw-up I did for my World Cup campaign. Supposed to be used as a deck cover…but, I’ll be sure to get on that.

Color Blind

As a yute from Southern California, it was easy to be in a gang. Based on locale and ethnicity, you’re either a crip or a blood. Simple. I never really ran with either of them because I couldn’t see the logic in getting in fights with people over colors…I mean they both looked so good on me, it was like Sophie’s Choice. How criminal would it be to be a Bulls fan and a crip? Nonetheless, as much as I feel at home here now in New York, I wish I had the options of picking a side with much more flair and style. A Jet, Bowery Boy, Warrior, or what have you…at least you had pizzaz. (mmmm. Pizza.)

Snow Sense

I’ve always been a fan of winterized footwear. Growing up doing an average of 30 days of snowboarding a season, it sucks walking around wearing sneakers with your gear on, feeling cold, and a potential victim to black ice in the Carl’s Jr parking lot. Wearing outdoorsy boots didn’t really jive well with the action sports get-up either. There’s just a mismatch in the sizing. So glad that Adidas is taking their action sports wing into the snow and not necessarily up the lifts.

War on Surf

From Jan 23-28, MoMA will be screening a film shot by Andy Warhol in La Jolla, CA about surfing. The storyline is about a family renting a house out to some surfers, and, if it’s anything like Warhol’s other film pet-projects from the 1960’s, it’ll be artfully, erratic and majestically non-purposeful. Nonetheless, being from San Diego and having dropped into hundreds of Scripps’ rolling, slopey lefts and duck-diving my lungs out during the 100 yard paddle out, I’ll be honored to go watch it. Plus, it’s a block away from 53rd and 6th Halal. Tubular.

Street Chassé

DDB NY and the New York City Ballet dance together to entice younger fans’ patronage. (So, it’s not all black birds and lesbians tho?)

Dope series by Faile.

Remembering the Orient

Contrary to the archetype of a Filipino kid raised in Southern California, my parents were not in the military and/or nurses. Nonetheless, I knew many who were. My dad never had to go be an estranged military husband on a boat in the Western Pacific rim for a number of months, so I never got to get Korean blankets, authentic Anime, or hand-me-down WestPac jackets…instead, I got a father.

Bout This Life

I’m not a huge fan of Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino…just because he’s like satirical, slick talk backpack…which, is totally like my personality, but just not my cup of tea. Nonetheless, liking the visuals of L.E.S.

I grew up around action sports. I’m from San Diego, CA. Skateboarding and surfing were all around me. Being the kid that I am, and having the tutelage of The Turbo Bass, we did those things and also wanted to be different at the same damn time. We took up underground, counter culture (at the time) sports too. Things like bodyboarding, snowboarding, and, yes, even rollerblading. This new collabo with Skate Mental and Nike SB is so awesome. Skate Mental is a crazy bunch. They’re core skate and totally making fun of rollerblading, which is hilarious. Since I have a no-skateshoe policy with myself (I respect the industry too much to wear shoes of a culture I’m no longer a part of. No posing here.), I won’t be getting these, but damn do I admire the balls.

Power Hours Mas

I haven’t done one of these in a couple of months…so I did a hand full. Not all of them taking an hour, but nothing more than that. It was fun to do it just off of memory and just do a study of my illustration style. Boredom at its most productive.
